ESSEX COUNTY COUNCIL ELECTIONS

JUNE 2009

SAVE ESSEX COUNTY COUNCIL

The choice for the electorate of Essex in this year’s County Council Elections is the most stark in the history of the County Council.  The Tories have published plans to privatise all the County Council services.  They will sell your Libraries, your Children’s Centres, Children’s Support Services and Adult Social Care.

Labour is vigorously opposed to these plans and promises to scrap them within a month of taking office at County Hall.

 Only Labour can beat the Tories in Essex and win control of the County.  A vote for Labour will keep the County Council democratic; a vote for the Tories will mean it is sold off to the lowest bidder.

 This is a watershed in the lives of the people of Essex.  On the one hand good accountable public service; on the other hand a privately owned County Council run for private profit.

 That is the choice for the people of Essex in June 2009.

 We urge the people of Essex to support Labour Candidates in this Election

 The Tories have been busy privatising Essex already and have made some appalling decisions in the last four years.   The Tories have also neglected basic infrastructure improvements within the County, whilst wasting money on ludicrous schemes and consultants.

 Labour pledges the following to the people of Essex:

 ü      More resources for footpath/pavement repairs

ü      More resources for pothole repairs on roads in our towns and villages

ü      Major investment in our Libraries, including substantial new money into the Book  Fund

ü      Substantial investment into Children’s and Adult Care Services

ü      Greater support for Public Transport

ü      To raise the standards in our schools

ü      Reversal of discriminatory Tory Waste Policy 

ü      Huge reduction in Consultancy costs

The above pledges will all be implemented within one term and this will improve efficiency within the County Council whilst delivering better public services for the people of Essex.

Only Labour can save Essex from the lunacy of Tory privatisation.

We are ready to fight for the people of Essex in this landmark election.
